Getting Started
What is Scripterium?
Scripterium is a browser-based platform for creating, publishing, and playing visual novels. You can build interactive stories using our visual drag-and-drop editor or write scripts directly, then publish them for anyone to play — all for free.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in your browser. There are no downloads, plugins, or desktop apps required. Just sign up and start creating.
Do I need to know how to code?
Not at all. The visual editor lets you build stories with drag-and-drop blocks. For advanced users, there's also a script editor with a simple syntax inspired by Ren'Py.
How do I become a creator?
After signing up, go to your profile menu and click "Become a Creator." You'll fill out a short application, and once approved by our team, you can start publishing games.
Playing Games
Is it free to play games?
Many games on Scripterium are completely free. Some creators choose to set a price in Inks (our virtual currency). Premium games will show their Ink price before you start playing.
How do saves work?
Games support up to 3 manual save slots plus an auto-save. Your progress is stored in your browser's local storage. Saves are per-device and per-browser.
Can I save a game to play later?
Yes! Click the bookmark icon on any game card or the "Save" button on a game's page. Saved games appear in your profile under the "Saved" tab.
Ink Currency
What are Inks?
Inks are Scripterium's virtual currency. 1 Ink = $0.01 USD. You can buy Ink packs to purchase premium games and asset packs, or earn Inks by selling your own creations.
Do Inks expire?
No. Inks stay in your wallet permanently until you choose to spend them.
Where can I buy Inks?
Visit the Ink Store from the navbar or your profile menu. Packs start at $0.99. Payment processing is handled securely through our payment provider.
Creators & Earnings
How do I earn money?
Set a price on your published game or sell asset packs on the marketplace. When players purchase your content, Inks are added to your balance (minus the platform fee). You can request a payout once you reach 2,500 Inks ($25).
What are the platform fees?
Free-tier creators pay a 20% platform fee on sales. Pro subscribers ($9/month) pay only 10%. The fee is automatically deducted when a sale occurs.
How do payouts work?
Once your Ink balance reaches 2,500 ($25), you can request a payout from your Wallet page. Payouts are reviewed and processed by our team, typically within a few business days.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free gives you 3 projects and 500 MB of storage. Pro ($9/month) gives you unlimited projects, 5 GB of storage, and reduces your marketplace fee from 20% to 10%. See our Pricing page for the full comparison.
Account & Safety
How do I change my username or profile?
Go to Settings from your profile menu. You can update your display name, bio, avatar, and other profile details there.
How do I report inappropriate content?
Every game page has a Report button. Click it, select a reason, and our moderation team will review it. We take content policy violations seriously.
What content is allowed?
All games must comply with our Terms of Service and Creator Agreement. Games are reviewed before publishing. Creators must set appropriate age ratings and content warnings for mature content.
Community
Can I follow other users?
Yes! Visit any user's profile and click the Follow button. You'll get notifications when they publish new games.
How do ratings work?
After playing a game, you can rate it from 1 to 5 stars and optionally leave a review. Ratings help other players discover great content and give feedback to creators.
